- Thesis title:
Comparative Studies of Remediation by Enhanced Natural Attenuation and Mycoremediation of Crude Oil Impacted Soil
Contribution to knowledge:
The Study evaluated the effectiveness of two bioremediation technologies (Remediation by Enhanced Attenuation (RENA) and mycoremediation using Pleurotus ostreatus) in remediation of Petroleum Hydrocarbon Polluted soils in the Niger Delta It also compared RENA potentials with that of mycoremediation in hydrocarbon remediation and discovered a more effective way of cleaning up petroleum hydrocarbon in the soil through the combination of RENA/mycoremediation treatment technique. The study also brought to knowledge, the indigenous crops with high tolerance levels and those that are less tolerant to petroleum hydrocarbon polluted environment.
Supervisors:
Dr. Maduekwe, Chinenyem, was jointly supervised by Prof (Mrs.) Eunice O. Nwachukwu (Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology) and Prof. Ogbonna F. Joel (Department of Gas Engineering) both of the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
