Challenges and Prospects of Urban Agriculture in Greater Port Harcourt City, Rivers State, Nigeria
Contribution to knowledge:
This study assessed the status, challenges and prospects of urban agriculture in Greater Port Harcourt city. Structured questionnaires were administered to 200 urban farmers using purposive and random sampling techniques. 77% of respondents had an annual income of above 300,000 naira from Urban Agriculture implying that it is a major means of urban livelihood. Results showed that Urban Agriculture is uncoordinated, unrecognized and a plethora of constraints undermine the enterprise, which include lack of government support, lack of credit and storage facilities, accessibility to land, lack of farm inputs, transportation and non inclusion in urban planning.
