Genotoxic Effects and Cytological Responses of Edible Nigeria Aroids to selected Oilfield Chemicals
Contribution to knowledge:
This work evaluated the genotoxic effects of some oilfield chemicals on edible Nigerian aroids, Xanthosoma maffafa and Colocasia esculenta, commonly called cocoyam. Results showed that treated cocoyam accessions were able to withstand the oilfield chemical stress due to the presence of adaptive tissues that characterized their anatomical structures. The cytotoxic and genotoxic potentials of the oilfield chemicals were established despite the high tolerance level of the cocoyam accessions to them.
