Professor Abayeh holds a B.Sc. in Industrial Chemistry from University of Benin, [1979]; MSc in Petrochemicals and hydrocarbon chemistry from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology [1982] and PhD in synthetic Organic Chemistry from Ahmadu Bello University, [1991]. Professor Abaych joined the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in 1983 and rose through the ranks to become a professor of synthetic organic chemistry in 2001. His research interests amongst many areas, include the synthesis of useful heterocycles via ketene intermediates, conversion of seed oils to industrial products. He is presently a Faculty member of the Department of Pure and Industrial chemistry, UNIPORT; as he transferred his services to UNIPORT in September 2014. He has so far successfully supervised over 12 PhDs, some of who are now professors, several masters and undergraduate students. Professor Abayeh is presently the editor-in-chief of the Journal of the Chemical Society of Nigeria.
