PROFESSOR FRANCIS DAVID SIKOKI

Professor Francis D. Sikoki is a Professor of Fisheries and Hydrobiology in the Department of Animal and Environmental Biology and Director of the Centre for Marine Pollution Monitoring and Seafood Safety of the University of Port Harcourt. He has had a brilliant academic career with an international perspective having served as a Visiting Professor at the Oregon State University, Carvallis, Oregon, USA and three Universities in Nigeria including: University of Jos, Jos; and the Federal University of Technology, Minna. In the course of his career, which spans 34 years, he has produced over 20 Ph.D. s, 4 of whom are Professors with one being a Deputy Vice Chancellor. He has to his credit over 80 scientific publications, 6 books and scores of Technical papers. He has also held several administrative positions in Government and in the University System such as: Centre Director (3 years); and Chairman Housing Committee (41/years). At the departmental level he is: Coordinator Post Graduate programme in Fisheries and Hydrobiology; Chairman Laboratory Manuals Committee; Member, Departmental Building Supervisory Committee. Professor Sikoki’s current research interests include: Environmental Assessment and Management; Fish stock and Limnological Assessment; and Enhancement of Aquacultural production. Professor Sikoki holds several awards and honours including: Fellow of the Fisheries Society of Nigeria and Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Industrial Administrators.
