Professor Enuvie Godwin AKPOKODJE

My career in the Nigerian university system spans 44 years including 26 years as Professor of Applied Geology. I have occupied several administrative and leadership positions in teaching, research and consultancy in the University system and the petroleum industry. My current positions include; Directorof the MacArthur Foundation (USA) funded Institute of Natural Resources, Environment and Sustainable Development (INRES), Chair of the Stanley Lawson Professorial Chair of Environmental Geology. Some other key positions I held included;

  • Head, Geology Department (two times, 1986-1988; 1996-1998),
  • Managing Director, University Consultancy Centre (CORDEC) (1998-2005),
  • Member, Governing Council, University of Port Harcourt (2006 & 2007),
  • Head of Geology Department and Acting Dean, Faculty of Science, Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, (NDU) (2005-2006).
  • Chairman of several Senate and University committees
  • Lead Consultant, Ogbogu Hydrogeological Survey; Total E&P Nig. Ltd (2010-2011) 
  • Facilitator, Joint Petroleum industry project on Cuttings Re-injection (2004-2005)
  • Team leader, modeling projects in Gas Fiscalisation & leachate; ELF, AGIP & SPDC (1999-2003)   
  • Project Leader, modeling of drilling waste and Produced water re-injection; SPDC (1995-1998)
  • Principal Researcher, SPDC multidisciplinary project on shale drilling problems (1992-1994)
