Discipline: Engineering
Characterization of Waxy (Paraffinic) Crude Oil and its Application in Production Operations
Contribution to knowledge:
The study developed models for calculation of the wax content in crude oil given the API, WAT, and pour point. A preliminary screening tool for waxiness has also been developed from SARA analysis data. A correction chart has been developed for correction of WAT measured with visual method to WAT by microscopy technique. The study also showed that base oil contamination impacts on waxy crude properties.
Supervisors:
Dr. Mmata, Bella, was jointly supervised by Prof. Joseph A. Ajienka (Department of Petroleum Engineering, University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria), Prof. Mike O. Onyekonwu (Department of Petroleum Engineering, University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria) & Prof. Godwin Chukwu (Department of Petroleum Engineering, African University of Science & Technology, Abuja, Nigeria).
