Discipline: Engineering
Effective Chemical Sand Consolidation Design for Oil Wells
Contribution to knowledge:
The study developed models to enhance sand consolidation operations, especially in oil fields with high water-cut. Models developed for the response variables could be used to explain about 97 to 100% of the variability. An organically cross-linked water sealant with excellent predictable gelling time was also developed. The work also generated additional literature on organically cross-linked water control systems. Experimental data on compressive strength of Sand Consolidation (SCON) and gelling time of water shutoff fluid systems has also been generated. The study showed that the X- Ray Diffraction (XRD) of Niger Delta formation sand sample indicates non-swelling clay material.
Supervisors:
Dr. Marfo, Solomon Adjei, was jointly supervised by Prof. Dulu Appah (Department of Petroleum Engineering, University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria), Prof. Ogbonna F. Joel (Department of Gas Engineering, University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria) & Prof. Grace Ofori Sarpong (Department of Petroleum Engineering, University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, Ghana).
