Demulsifier Formulations for Treatment of Water-in Crude Oil Emulsions
Contribution to knowledge:
The study formulated a new Water-in-Oil (W/O) crude oil demulsifier comparable with a commercial type in performance at 30 ppm concentration. The newly formulated demulsifier may be preferred when a quicker break of a crude oil emulsion is desired. The formulated demulsifier is greener (LC50= 50.1 ppm) in comparison with a typical commercial type (LCso= 30.6 ppm). The study also discovered that crude potash extract of Empty Palm Fruit Bunch (EPFB) can be employed as an additive in water-in- crude oil emulsion demulsification for a quicker and more efficient resolution depending on the physical parameters of the crude.
