8th ACE Impact Regional Workshop from Monday November 14 to Friday November 18, 2022.

ACE-CEFOR, was one of the 17 Nigeria ACE Impact Centres that participated in the 8th ACE Impact Workshop which took place in Banjul, Republic of the Gambia from Monday, November 14, to Friday, November 18, 2022. Activities for the workshop began on Monday November 14, with the ACE Project Steering Committee (PSC) meetings. On Tuesday, November 15, the workshop was formally launched during an Opening Ceremony by the President of the Republic of the Gambia, His Excellency, Adama Barrow. Highlights of the opening ceremony, chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, The Gambia, Dr. Yusupha Touray, include a welcome address by the Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, The Gambia, Hon. Professor Pierre Gomez; Opening Remarks by Prof. Olusola Bandele, Secretary-General, Association of African Universities (AAU); Mr. Laurent Cortese, Deputy Director for Education, AFD Paris and Mrs. Feyi Boroffice, World Bank Resident Representative, The Gambia.

The workshop had 10 plenary sessions covering ACE Impact Project Status Update; Innovations in Higher Education in Africa: A Post-COVID Era Perspective; Regional Cooperation in Higher Education to Build a Skilled Workforce and Improve Research to meet Market Demand (a Ministerial Panel); ACE Research Contributions to Communities (Nationally and

Regionally); Research to Market – Innovations at the ACEs; Innovation, Research and Entrepreneurship; ACE Centres: Career Perspectives for Women;  M&E and Innovation; Report from Thematic Breakout Sessions and Official Closing Ceremonies and Awards.

There were also 4 parallel sessions and performance clinics for Disbursement Linked Indicators  (DLIs) such as DLI 4.3 (Teaching & Research Infrastructure); DLI 5.3 (Entrepreneurship) and DLI 7 (Institutional Impact).  Other parallel sessions and clinics covered Procurement (Centre and National); Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E); Environmental and Safeguards; FM & Disbursement; Aide Memoire and a Djibouti Country Roundtable.

There were also Thematic Breakout sessions during the workshop for Health; Agriculture and Water; Mining, Energy and Environment; ICT; Education; Engineering; and Urban & Transport.

The highlight of the workshop for ACE-CEFOR, was during the Closing Ceremony and Awards, when ACE-CEFOR PhD student, Ms. Chinonye Medline Maduka, received the 2022 ACE Impact Student Innovation Research Award (SIRA), for her research work, The use of organics to formulate brake fluid”.

ACE-CEFOR was represented at the workshop by the Centre Leader, Prof. Ogbonna Joel; Deputy Centre Leader, Prof. Ikechukwu Agbagwa; Procurement Officer, Prof. Ibisime Etela; Project Accountant, Dr. Benson Timah; Environmental & Safeguards Officer, Dr. Victor Aimikhe; Project Internal Auditor, Mr. Noble Maclin; Communication Officer, Mrs. Benedicta Omeni and Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, Mr. Uduma Ikpa. The Workshop was formally closed on Friday, November 18, 2022, by the Vice President, Republic of the Gambia, Hon. Badara Alieu Joof.
